This session will delve into the complexities of adolescents’ consumption of sexually explicit material. We will briefly cover the evolution of pornography and its influence in the lives of youth. A growing proportion of sexually harmful behaviors committed by youth involve social media. We will discuss the current state of social media and the impact those sites have on adolescents’ interpersonal behavior. Our primary focus will be how to prevent harmful online sexual behavior and eliminate problematic use of pornography. We will discuss the differences between normative adolescent behavior and problematic use and the assessment and treatment of youth whose behavior has become problematic. We discuss how to set achievable and appropriate treatment goals, therapeutic approaches, the importance of reasonable guidance, and education about topics such as consent, sexting, sharing content, Child Sexual Explicit Material (CSEM).
Training Hours:
Start at 9:30 a.m. and end by 4:15 p.m. EST. We will break for lunch from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

Trainer Biography:
Seth Wescott, MS, ATSA-F
Seth Wescott received a master’s degree in clinical psychology and is a Licensed Master’s Level Psychologist (LMLP). He has worked with individuals who have displayed problematic sexual behaviors since 2002. Mr. Wescott has worked in correctional settings for adults and adolescents, as well as various community-based settings. He has served as a clinician and administrator and has managed state and federal contracts continuously since 2011. In 2021, he co-founded Counterpoise Wellness, a private practice in the Kansas City area. In private practice, Mr. Wescott conducts forensic psychosexual evaluations for adults and adolescents at various stages of the criminal justice process. He provides outpatient therapy for adjudicated and non-adjudicated individuals who have displayed problematic sexual behavior. Mr. Wescott conducts trainings for governmental and other agencies, provides expert testimony in criminal cases, and offers consultation to stakeholders regarding policy and practice issues. He is an ATSA Fellow, serves as Chair of the ATSA Public Policy Committee, and is a member of the ATSA Adult Clinical Practice Committee. He is a certified independent trainer for Static-99R/Stable-2007/Acute-2007 risk instruments. He is an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Rockhurst University, and an Adjunct Professor of Counseling at Mid-America Nazarene University.
