Holistic Service Provision for LGBTQ+ Youth Who Initiated a Problematic Sexual Behavior

October 11, 2024 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM (EDT)

Description

Children and teens who have initiated problematic, including illegal, sexual behaviors (PSB) with other children are a diverse group. While a majority of these youth identify as heterosexual, cisgender, and binary, some have a marginalized sexual orientation and gender identity (i.e. LGBTQ+). There is a shortage of research and literature on children and teens who are LGBTQ+ and initiate genuine PSB with other children. Many clinicians, advocates, and juvenile justice personnel remain uninformed about or inexperienced with culturally sensitive care for LGBTQ+ youth and their families and, in particular, lack clear guidance on how to holistically serve these youth in treatment for PSB. However, there are standalone evidence-based best practices for serving youth with PSB and for LGBTQ+ youth. Using didactics and facilitated discussions, the presenters will provide a foundation of core evidence-based information on youth with PSB and youth who are LGBTQ+, review best practices for both populations, and present ideas for how to holistically treat LGBTQ+ youth who initiated PSB with other children.

Training Hours:

Starts at 12:00 p.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. EST.

Learning Objectives:

1). Participants will be able to identify core information about youth with a marginalized sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
2). Participants will be able to identify core information about youth who initiated problematic sexual behavior with other children.
3). Participants will be able to formulate evidence-informed strategies to effectively treat youth who initiated a problematic sexual behavior and, also, have a marginalized sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

CE Hours: A total of 1.5 CE hours will be issued at the conclusion of the training.

Registration: closes October 4, 2024
